FAQs

Our focus reflects how our community is represented. Residents in Belconnen and Gungahlin are covered by the federal electorate of Fenner and the ACT electorates of Ginninderra and Yerrabi.

At this stage, we are in a listening phase. We are seeking community views on the issues that matter most, and how people feel about representation—both federally and at the ACT level.

Rather than pre-determining where to focus, we are starting with the community. What we hear will help guide whether there is support for identifying and endorsing candidates in one or more of these electorates.

We don’t have one. Our role is to listen. Any endorsed independent candidate would be responsible for developing their own policy platform.

No. We are a community organisation with a focus first and foremost on listening to residents about their own priorities and levels of satisfaction with current representation.

The Voices of Belconnen and Gungahlin group does not run candidates. It is not a political party. In the event of strong positive community feedback for alternative representation, we may facilitate a fair and transparent process for this group's endorsement of a candidate in any of the three electorates of relevance.

Entirely through donations. We are a volunteer-run grouping of local residents with minimal resources, covering basic costs like materials, events and setting up this website.

Yes, you can! Volunteers may belong to political parties, provided they support the group's objectives, including the Five Principles, and agree to the volunteer code of conduct.

Yes, you can. Please see Section 6 of the Australian Public Service Code of Conduct or the ACT Public Sector Code of Conduct for guidance on precisely how you can participate (whichever is relevant). We have roles that can involve different levels of exposure, and our work is principally to listen, rather than to express opinions or positions ourselves. Please discuss it with us if you are unsure. You could also refer to similar advice from our friends at proACT.
